More about this artwork

In the painting, a serene landscape unfolds under a vast, cloudy sky, suggesting a wide-open space and a sense of quiet isolation. A body of water mirrors the gentle tones of the sky, dotted with subtle reflections of the overhead clouds and faint hints of blue. Gentle browns and tans dominate the pastoral scene, creating a sense of warmth and earthiness. The foreground is marked by rugged, dry grasslands, leading to a series of water pools or a river that weaves through the terrain. Scattered bushes and clusters of trees populate the landscape, their forms rendered with light, washy strokes that evoke a wind-swept and somewhat barren environment. The overall mood is contemplative, inviting the viewer to gaze into the distance and absorb the tranquil, natural beauty of the setting.

Arūnas Vasiliauskas (born in 1942) is a creator, artist, social activist, ethnographer and watercolourist.

Arūnas prefers the sensitive technique of watercolour and landscapes of his native Lithuania, where he tries to convey the fragility of the balance of our world and the fleeting nature of the moment, but without any drama; on the contrary, his works are filled with calmness, confidence and wisdom. Trust in nature. Perhaps the most beautiful thing about Arūnas's landscapes is that you can feel the light changing, the clouds rolling across the sky and the grasses swaying in the wind - they are not static, they capture the feeling of the moment perfectly, and the artist's paintings convey not only colours and shapes, but also smells and sounds.

Arūnas taught for many years at the Šiauliai Pedagogical Institute and the Children's Art School. He worked as a painter at the Šiauliai Aušra Museum and was chairman of the Šiauliai branch of the Lithuanian Artists' Union.  He taught at the Šiauliai Conservatoire (now the Šiauliai Sauliaus Sondeckis Art Gymnasium).

He still participates in international exhibitions, both solo and group.

In 1996 participated in the exhibition of the artistic part of the Atlanta Summer Olympics.

Vasiliauskas' works have been acquired by Lithuanian museums. A large part of them are in private Lithuanian and foreign collections.
