More about this artwork

The painting displays an abstract and chaotic composition, featuring a muted palette of beige, whites, and greys, interspersed with hints of black and occasional splashes of earthy browns and subtle greens. The surface is textured, seeming almost dilapidated or weathered, echoing the appearance of old walls. Striking through this mottled backdrop are several bold, white lines that cross and intersect at various angles, contributing to a sense of sharp dynamism against the otherwise rugged and aged textures. The interplay of structured lines with the organic, eroding forms beneath creates a juxtaposition, possibly reflecting themes of renewal or the emergence of new structures from decay. One area of the painting, towards the left side, shows a circular form with a greenish hue, resembling a small window or portal peering out from the chaotic environment, adding another layer of depth and mystery to the scene.

Arūnas Vasiliauskas (born in 1942) is a creator, artist, social activist, ethnographer and watercolourist.

Arūnas prefers the sensitive technique of watercolour and landscapes of his native Lithuania, where he tries to convey the fragility of the balance of our world and the fleeting nature of the moment, but without any drama; on the contrary, his works are filled with calmness, confidence and wisdom. Trust in nature. Perhaps the most beautiful thing about Arūnas's landscapes is that you can feel the light changing, the clouds rolling across the sky and the grasses swaying in the wind - they are not static, they capture the feeling of the moment perfectly, and the artist's paintings convey not only colours and shapes, but also smells and sounds.

Arūnas taught for many years at the Šiauliai Pedagogical Institute and the Children's Art School. He worked as a painter at the Šiauliai Aušra Museum and was chairman of the Šiauliai branch of the Lithuanian Artists' Union.  He taught at the Šiauliai Conservatoire (now the Šiauliai Sauliaus Sondeckis Art Gymnasium).

He still participates in international exhibitions, both solo and group.

In 1996 participated in the exhibition of the artistic part of the Atlanta Summer Olympics.

Vasiliauskas' works have been acquired by Lithuanian museums. A large part of them are in private Lithuanian and foreign collections.
