More about this artwork

In this artwork, we are presented with a surreal figure resembling an elderly man whose body strangely merges with a watering can. His head is oversized with exaggerated facial features including large, poignant eyes and a bulbous nose. The figure is aproned, decorated with intricate, mechanical-like patterns that swirl around where his body meets the metallic can, hinting at a possible fusion between organic and inorganic forms. He holds a small saw in his hands, with the blade appearing active or in motion, indicated by dynamic, squiggly lines emanating from its teeth. Intriguingly, from the spout of the watering can, instead of water, a vibrant outbreak of red berries or buds bursts forth, cascading around him like droplets of life sprung in mid-air. These berries connect with the theme of gardening but introduce an element of fantasy and unexpectedness, as the mundane act of watering morphs into an event of magical proliferation. The background remains a subtle, textured beige, allowing the complexities and the stark color contrasts of the central figure to dominate the viewer's attention.

Daiva Mažonienė always wants to draw a smile from the viewer. Her works are cheerful and colourful, and her characters are like symbols of a good life. The author's work is dominated by rounded shapes, because, according to the author, she does not like sharp corners both in her painting and in her life, and she smooths them out by painting not so much with a brush as with good emotions.
"My work is born when I feel good, and I put that positive feeling into my paintings".
The most frequent characters in her paintings are angels, known as Angeliauskas, and curvy, charming women enjoying life.
