More about this artwork

The painting depicts an abstract interpretation of horses, merging angular and fluid lines to create dynamic forms. Dominated by shades of gray, the artwork leverages coarse brushstrokes and contrasting light and dark areas to evoke the movement and raw energy of horses. The figures overlap and intertwine, creating a sense of depth and interaction between the forms, suggesting the presence of multiple horses within a confined space. The background is texturally rich, adding a sense of grittiness that complements the equine subject matter.

Artist

Darya Hancharka was born in Minsk, Belarus. Graduated from the Belarusian Academy of Arts, Vilnius Academy of Arts. Now the artist has lived and worked in Vilnius.

Darya's paintings are dominated by abstracted landscapes and cityscapes. The artist breaks down the visible landscape into large patches of colour, which she combines into a new composition with almost no use of drawing, only expressive, broad brushstrokes. Despite the size of the colour planes, one can see that they shimmer, flicker and flow into each other; the artist deliberately does not mask the brushstrokes, and sees the beauty of expression in every touch of the brush.
