More about this artwork

The painting presents an abstract interplay of shapes and colors that evoke the imagery of brooches, as the title suggests. Dominant in the center is a form that resembles a large, organic and possibly hollow object, with elements similar to a face or mask within its design. Its surface is painted in earthy tones, with hints of green, yellow, and brown that suggest a metallic patina, possibly copper or bronze. Surrounding this central figure are flowing, ribbon-like forms in shades of deep purples and pinks, providing a vivid contrast that highlights the figural object. To the right, there appears a smaller, rounded shape, resembling a closed eye, engaging playfully with the overall composition. The backdrop, in washes of warm browns, sets a harmonious stage, allowing the brighter colors and intricate design features to stand out. The fluidity in the forms and the dreamlike blend of colors create a sense of movement, as if the brooches are swirling in a soft, ethereal space.

Artist

Watercolourist Daiva Šlajienė is distinguished in the context of our platform by her rich, jewel-like colours, which spill out to hypnotise the viewer. Her paintings try to speak to ancient objects, which become the main protagonists of her works, and her figure compositions are like film stills frozen in time or scenes from a performance, where every detail has a symbolic meaning. And to make it easier to understand what the artist means, she adds a short story or a poetic verse to each piece. You can find it by opening the painting and clicking on the "DESCRIPTION" section.

Daiva Šlajienė is a member of the Lithuanian Artists' Union, a watercolourist, who has held solo exhibitions in Lithuania and abroad. She has participated in more than two dozen group republican and international exhibitions.  Her watercolours have been acquired by collectors in Lithuania, Norway and Sweden.
