About the author
Daiva Šlajienė, a watercolorist, is renowned for her exceptional ability to employ vibrant, jewel-toned colors that distinguish her artwork. Often drawing inspiration from prehistory, her watercolors reimagine ancient objects as lively characters, each carrying its own narrative. This combination of storytelling and bold coloration results in vivid and surprising imagery that captivates the viewer's attention.
In addition to her exploration of ancient themes, Daiva Šlajienė creates figure-based compositions that resemble stills captured from a theatrical production or film. Each component in these works is meticulously detailed and filled with symbolic meaning, encouraging viewers to seek out the underlying messages. Her art uniquely interweaves narrative elements with expressive visual language, producing pieces that resonate on both personal and universal levels.
Šlajienė frequently enriches the experience of her paintings by including a verse of poetry or a brief story for each piece. These literary accompaniments can be found in the "DESCRIPTION" section once the image is opened, offering viewers further insight into her creative vision and intent.
A member of the Lithuanian Union of Artists, Daiva Šlajienė has held numerous solo exhibitions both within Lithuania and abroad. She has also participated in more than thirty group exhibitions across the globe. In 2024, her achievements were honored with several distinctions, including the X // TEN diploma at the 10th International Watercolor Biennale "BALTIC BRIDGES" and the Best Work award at the ART KAUNAS International Arts Festival.
