More about this artwork

In the painting titled "Ancient Manuscripts" by Yuna Galejeva, there is a striking representation of old, possibly ancient books or scrolls. The painting uses a palette dominated by rich browns, deep blacks, and subtle touches of gold and white, conveying a sense of antiquity and mystery. These books are depicted with thick, textured spines, some showing signs of wear and age. They are piled somewhat haphazardly, suggesting long use and storied histories. The use of light and shadow creates depth, making the books appear as if they are emerging from the darkness, which could symbolize the preservation of knowledge over time. The brushwork is expressive and loose, giving the painting a dynamic, almost moving quality, as though the history contained within these manuscripts is stirring to life.

Artist

Junija (Yuna) Galejeva is an abstract oil painter from Lithuania. With a background in musicology, she approaches art with a musician's mindset, applying melodic movement and improvisation to her creations. Working with oils and acrylics on canvas, she explores color nuances and textures to craft emotive, rhythmic compositions. Intuitive pulsions lead her hand and brush into repetitive pattern-like compositions that expand on the canvas, opening up the viewer's field of vision. The touch is soft and meditative or vigorous and dynamic, according to Yuna's emotional inclinations. Either way, the artist welcomes us unreservedly into the intimacy of her psychological sphere, prompting a wave of instinctive associative responses.

Yuna's abstract paintings are a musical expression in visual form. The harmonious and delicate palette has a soothing contemplative aura that refreshes the senses. There is an emotional depth to the work which encourages active engagement with the viewer.

She currently resides in Vilnius, where she works as an editor for the national radio program LRT Klasika and as a lecturer on the history of baroque opera at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre.
