More about this artwork

The painting "Legend" by Yuna Galejeva is an evocative abstract composition that creates a vivid sensory landscape through the use of rich, varied textures and a restrained yet impactful color palette. Dominating the scene is a dynamic interplay of colors where deep reds and purples meld with cool blues and hints of green. These primary masses of color are tempered by an extensive application of white and gray, which adds a mist-like or frosted effect to the surface. The overall impression is one of chaotic beauty, as if observing a natural phenomenon like a storm or a rugged terrain through a foggy or rain-splattered lens. Specks of brighter colors, possibly yellow or light blue, punctuate the canvas, suggesting points of light or the emergence of distant elements through the haze. The texture of the paint, which appears thickly applied in some areas and more thinly in others, contributes to a sense of depth and motion, giving the feeling that the elements within the painting are in a constant state of flux.Despite the absence of recognizable forms or figures, the painting evokes a sense of mystery and grandeur, as if capturing the essence of a legendary event or a powerful natural occurrence. The viewer is invited to interpret and feel the emotional resonance of the scene, each glance potentially offering a new understanding or feeling.

Junija (Yuna) Galejeva is an abstract oil painter from Lithuania. With a background in musicology, she approaches art with a musician's mindset, applying melodic movement and improvisation to her creations. Working with oils and acrylics on canvas, she explores color nuances and textures to craft emotive, rhythmic compositions. Intuitive pulsions lead her hand and brush into repetitive pattern-like compositions that expand on the canvas, opening up the viewer's field of vision. The touch is soft and meditative or vigorous and dynamic, according to Yuna's emotional inclinations. Either way, the artist welcomes us unreservedly into the intimacy of her psychological sphere, prompting a wave of instinctive associative responses.

Yuna's abstract paintings are a musical expression in visual form. The harmonious and delicate palette has a soothing contemplative aura that refreshes the senses. There is an emotional depth to the work which encourages active engagement with the viewer.

She currently resides in Vilnius, where she works as an editor for the national radio program LRT Klasika and as a lecturer on the history of baroque opera at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre.
