About the author
Gerda spent her early childhood playing in her dad's art studio and watching him work. As her interest in art grew, her parents encouraged her to pursue an art education, first at the Adomas Brakas School of Art and later at Gray's School of Art (Robert Gordon University). Gerda's artistic identity was formed while she was studying at university. She uses her paintings and illustrations as a visual diary, depicting reality with a pinch of spice.
Gerda's paintings are figurative, but instead of people, they depict animals surrounded by our familiar surroundings, engaged in our everyday activities. As the artist herself says, the animals reflect different sides of her personality. In the paintings, they are exploring their surroundings, enjoying their diplomas, taking selfies. The artist says that she painted this series as a diary, but not wanting to paint many self-portraits, she decided to replace herself with different animals. In this way, her works have also become more universal - in these animals we can recognise ourselves.
Gerda's work has been featured at New Designers 2019 in London, and at various art fairs in Lithuania, such as Jurassic Festival in Klaipėda and Vilnius Days.
