About the author
Natalia Yanekina is a contemporary artist whose work is immediately identifiable by its unique style, no matter the genre she chooses to engage with. A central thread in Yanekina’s oeuvre is her exploration of the connection between humans and nature. Across her landscapes, still lifes, and portraits, recurring elements such as animals, birds, dogs, and bouquets of flowers frequently appear, reflecting her continuous conversation with the natural world.
Yanekina characterizes her technique as lyrical abstractionism. This style results in artworks where distinct, sharply defined shapes are rarely present. Rather, her paintings inspire a sense of nostalgia, memory, and a subtle femininity—even when her brushwork turns bold or unrefined. Her art invites viewers into a realm that feels dreamlike, where reality softens and emotion takes center stage.
Her treatment of color is especially remarkable. Utilizing a vibrant palette, she frequently brings particular attention to certain features by emphasizing or amplifying them. Decorative motifs and patterned elements are elegantly incorporated within her work, ensuring the compositions remain dynamic without descending into repetitiveness. These qualities together establish a singular visual aesthetic that is immediately recognizable as hers.
Born in Kaliningrad in 1982, Natalia Yanekina graduated from the M. Maliutinsky Higher School of Art in Ivanovo in 2003. Her membership in the Russian Union of Artists, which she has held since 2005, further affirms her professional reputation. In 2008, Yanekina made Lithuania her home, where she continues to develop and produce new art.
