About the author
Neringa Marcinkevičiūtė-Strazdė's works of spare lines allow the chamber space of the gallery to "breathe", as well as the viewer himself. Looking at the graphic artist's works - as if sentences were started, conversations that turn into silences, pauses - the viewer easily inserts his or her own observations without even noticing or silently continues the conversation with the artist, with himself or herself. "With such a modern rush and overcrowded daily routine, we always have little free time," observes N.Marcinkevičiūtė-Strazdė, "that is why I try to rest in emptiness, in silence, in space. It is very important for me not to pollute a piece of paper with unnecessary things. Less is better than too much - that's my motto, my main idea."
Recently, Neringa's work has been dominated by the human figure, sometimes alone, sometimes as a group. Her graceful characters are self-absorbed, detached from their surroundings, but when you look at them, you never get the feeling that they are one and the same person, with a multitude of different roles, parts and sides of their personality, through which the true self and the animalistic nature of man inexorably try to break through.
