More about this artwork

The painting portrays a vivid and somewhat chaotic scene centered around an open laptop displaying three distinct figures: what seems to be a stylized version of the Virgin Mary on the left, a simple, yellow-toned sketch of a woman in the middle, and a darker, more obscured face on the right, each occupying a block of vibrant color background. The keyboard of the laptop is elaborately detailed, colorful, hinting at its importance in the composition. On both sides of the laptop, everyday objects are infused with surreal elements; to the left, a piece resembling a vase sits atop what looks like an ebbing red flame, while to the right, an indigo urn-like object stands. Each of these objects appears to be illuminated from within, casting them not just as ordinary items but as significant elements of the narrative. Directly in front of the laptop lies a piece of paper, blotted with strokes of white paint, suggesting a shroud of mystery over what might be written or represented. The colors used are intensely saturated, contributing to a mood that feels both mystical and digital, a juxtaposition of the religious iconography with the contemporary digital age. The entire composition is framed within what appears to be a rough, textured blue border, deepening the painting's richness and emphasizing a blend of traditional and modernist styles. The painting oscillates between the realms of technology and spirituality, urging the viewer to ponder the interplay between ancient symbols and new-age screens.

Artist

"My work is mostly rooted somewhere in (art/cultural) history, but it is always inevitably confronted with the present - the screens, the virtual, the global. I often look for a resonance with the feelings I am experiencing in order to make sense of them, so my work is really "personal", but maybe I am looking for consolation, "maybe I am not alone in this?". Often I use intuition to create, composing with independent objects, listening to their harmony. The creative process is a dreaming process, rather than a dream come true, so I get to know what no one else has seen at the same time as me. Wit is very important," says the young artist about his work.

Martynas' paintings are expressive, born in the here and now, with a strong impulse. It has a strong sense of the present, of man's relationship with the modern, fast-changing world. Often when looking at his paintings, one gets the impression of how much there is - how many different objects, brushstrokes, colours are combined into one whole, but it perfectly reflects both our current world and the complex inner world of the human being.
