More about this artwork

The painting depicts a quiet urban street scene following a recent rainfall. A large puddle occupies the foreground, reflecting the gray sky and the silhouette of a leafless tree. This tree, along with another lush one, frames the view, adding a sense of depth and contrast to the scene. The background features an array of old, multi-story buildings painted in soft hues of beige and yellow, which evoke a feeling of warmth and history. Their European-style architecture includes visible chimneys, steeply pitched roofs, and dormer windows peeping from the rooflines. The sidewalk, wet from the rain, meanders alongside a small grassy area and a neatly curbed roadway where a couple of cars are parked. Visible on the left side of the puddle is a segment of the curb and a drain, suggesting the urban setting's functionality. The overall ambiance is serene, highlighted by the stillness of the water in the puddle and the absence of people, imbuing the scene with a moment captured in time—a pause of quiet solitude in a city environment.

Artist

Mantas Čepauskis paints in a different style - he chooses different brushstrokes for each painting, corresponding to the plot, so each work is particularly original and has its own energy.

In recent years, the artist has turned in a new direction - into the genre of fantasy painting - and, we have to say, he is doing very well. Having already demonstrated his mastery of realistic technique with his earlier landscapes, he is now applying it to more stylised works, often evoking fairytale motifs or subconscious imagery.

These paintings are full of symbols - whole allegories whose meaning should not be taken literally. No detail in the work of Mantas Čepauskis appears for no reason - it has a meaning and a purpose. Only by combining the meanings of the symbols into a whole will you unravel the whole picture. The artist uses fantastic images to explore serious philosophical themes - the question of time, human existence and diversity, longing, love and loneliness. In a way, we can see these themes even in the artist's earlier landscapes.
