More about this artwork

The painting presents the portrait of a woman looking directly at the viewer with an elegant and composed demeanor. Her face is symmetrically ornamented, divided with different skin tones and textures. One half features plain skin, while the other is patterned with designs reminiscent of feathers or scales. Her eyebrows are thick and pronounced, complementing her penetrating gaze. Her lips are brightly colored in a vivid red, highlighting the clarity of her expression. Her head is adorned with an elaborate crown of floral and faunal elements. Large, blooming flowers and full-bodied roses intertwine with dark leaves, arranged in a dense, textured heap that adds an organic opulence to her appearance. This floral arrangement is interspersed with elements suggesting wildlife, possibly indicating a connection to nature or a specific cultural symbolism.Hanging from her ears are earrings made of feathers, adding to the naturalistic theme. The feathers are dark and long, contributing an air of ceremonial gravity to her attire.Below, around her neck, she wears what appears to be a necklace or amulet consisting of intertwined branches or roots that drape over her shoulders and chest. These woody textures twist and swirl, drawing the eye downwards and balancing the intricate details of her headgear. The overall impression is that of a figure deeply rooted in naturalistic and possibly spiritual symbolism, portrayed with a rich interplay of textures and contrasts that suggest a narrative or identity beyond what is visibly depicted.

Gražvydas Andrijauskaitė's field of work is quite broad - from characterful images of animals, cheerful children to mysterious, multi-layered portraits of women, but all of them are united by their meticulous execution, attention to detail and decorative quality. The artist combines her skilful drawing with various ornaments and patterns, but never overdoes it, maintaining elegance and delicacy.

Most of Gražyvda's characters are reminiscent of fairy tale characters, imaginary childhood friends, something familiar and at the same time unseen. All of them are shrouded in mystery, created by the technique of multi-layer printing, but each one of them tells his or her own story through symbolic details.

Since 1997, the artist has successfully participated in exhibitions in Lithuania and abroad.
