More about this artwork

The painting displays a whimsical character, seemingly male, with an exaggeratedly long, slender neck that morphs seamlessly into a trumpet he is playing. This trumpet appears to be an extension of his very being. His head is tilted slightly to one side, eyes glancing sideways with an expression mixed with mischief and delight. His hair is short and neatly styled and his ears protrude noticeably. He is dressed in a white shirt with a neatly tied bow tie. His hands, adorned in white sleeves, hold the trumpet gently yet firmly. The background is a rich, deep red hue, offering a stark contrast between him and the backdrop, accentuating his pale skin tone and the light color of his attire. The overall effect is both intriguing and playful, blending human and musical elements into a singular, harmonious composition.

Rolana Čečkauskaitė likens her creative process to filmmaking—she crafts characters, imagines their adventures, and envisions their actions and dialogues, often centering her work on the dynamics between a man and a woman. For years, this exploration of couple relationships has anchored her artistic focus, presenting a theme that is both inexhaustible and perpetually meaningful. Every painting serves as a new scene, unfolding a narrative rich in the subtleties of human connection.

Her works possess a cinematic atmosphere, reminiscent of film stills that capture characters in lively, expressive, and distinctive ways. Frequently set against the backdrop of everyday moments, Čečkauskaitė’s characters savor the simple pleasures the artist considers fundamental to life. However, she is known for surprising viewers with unforeseen twists, transforming each collection into a unique adventure. Whether her figures appear to be flying, dancing, or riding, a thread of irony and humor consistently enlivens and reinvigorates her work.

Whirlwind colors, energetic patterns, and boldly stylized forms are signature elements of R. Čečkauskaitė’s art, yielding images that are both visually compelling and aesthetically refined. Even with her striking use of color and shape, her arrangements avoid overcrowding by typically featuring one or two central figures along with a select few details. The universal appeal of her characters invites viewers to see themselves within the scenes, and the optimism her paintings convey is meant to illuminate any space and elevate the viewer’s spirits.

Beyond painting, Rolana Čečkauskaitė is recognized for her work in ceramics as well. Born in Šiauliai, Lithuania, she attended the M. K. Čiurlionis Art School and earned her degree from the Vilnius Academy of Arts. As a member of the Artists' Union, she has exhibited in over 65 solo shows and more than 200 group exhibitions, both in Lithuania and internationally. Her contributions have been formally acknowledged by the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Lithuania with a Letter of Gratitude, and she has been officially designated an Artist by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Lithuania.
