More about this artwork

This painting depicts a dark, matte black cooking pot on the left, resting on a table cloaked in a muted, olive-green cloth. To its right, the composition features a line of garlic bulbs with papery white skins, their stems intertwined. Next to the garlic, there are onions and radishes in shades of red and bronze, their textures vivid and tangible. A white coffee cup with a blue rim and saucer sits towards the right edge of the table, holding a spoon that suggests recent use. The backdrop is composed of muted, blended greens and browns, creating a subtle yet warm ambient space that focuses attention on the objects displayed. The overall mood is rustic and serene, with a palpable sense of stillness and the everyday beauty of simple kitchen items.

Artist

Mantas Čepauskis paints in a different style - he chooses different brushstrokes for each painting, corresponding to the plot, so each work is particularly original and has its own energy.

In recent years, the artist has turned in a new direction - into the genre of fantasy painting - and, we have to say, he is doing very well. Having already demonstrated his mastery of realistic technique with his earlier landscapes, he is now applying it to more stylised works, often evoking fairytale motifs or subconscious imagery.

These paintings are full of symbols - whole allegories whose meaning should not be taken literally. No detail in the work of Mantas Čepauskis appears for no reason - it has a meaning and a purpose. Only by combining the meanings of the symbols into a whole will you unravel the whole picture. The artist uses fantastic images to explore serious philosophical themes - the question of time, human existence and diversity, longing, love and loneliness. In a way, we can see these themes even in the artist's earlier landscapes.
