More about this artwork

The painting captures an upward view of the interior of the Pantheon's famous oculus. The central focus is the open eye of the dome, glowing with a pure, bright light that seems to radiate outward. Surrounding this luminous circle is the Pantheon's coffered concrete ceiling, a series of square indentations, each framed with thick, bold lines that provide a deep sense of structure. The texture on the ceiling fades from a darker, detailed foreground into a hazy, lighter periphery, emphasizing the vastness and the fading light as it moves away from the center. The perspective used by the artist creates an almost vertiginous feeling, drawing the viewer's eye directly into the stark brightness of the oculus, symbolizing perhaps a portal to the heavens. The shades of gray used throughout the painting enhance the play of light and shadow, capturing the aged and timeless beauty of this architectural masterpiece.

Artist

I’ve been surrounded by creative people since childhood. During that time, I’ve been attending an art school and an art studio. Later in life, I chose a career in architecture, which is now my main activity and still very close to the thing that inspires me – art.

For a while, free expression of creativity, such as drawing and painting, faded out of my life. But fortunately, not for long, as five years ago, immersed in the routine of motherhood, I found myself inspired, took out my paints and brushes, and that was that key moment when I fell in love with watercolour. I was impressed by its lightness, transparency, and the way you can improvise with it.

Since I am from Klaipėda, some of my favourite themes involve the views of Klaipėda city, the port, and the seashore. I love travelling. Seeing the world is one of my main sources for inspiration and I am very happy I have a chance to turn my impressions into works of art.
