More about this artwork

In this striking painting, a face is depicted with an obscured, almost smoky layer over the eyes, rendering them closed or hidden. The background and foreground merge in hues of deep blue and white, suggesting a fluid, perhaps tumultuous, atmosphere. The face itself is painted with bold, expressive strokes, dominated by warm tones of orange, yellow, and red, contrasted sharply against cooler blues and greys. The eyes, though veiled, introduce a sense of mystery or detachment. Expressive drips and smears of paint add a dynamic, almost raw texture to the piece, enhancing the overall emotional impact and suggesting themes of introspection, confusion, or chaos.

Artist

Raimonda Kielaitė is a painter who is known on the art market as Mone Kielė (born 19 April 1992), who graduated from the Kaunas Faculty of the Academy of Fine Arts in 2017.

Mone Kielė's main object of research is the human being and the environment around him. Her paintings include a number of self-portraits, which are narratives about the artist's own personal experience, but she is also inspired by people who exist in reality and have become an integral part of her work.

The main motifs that dominate the paintings are: the appearance of the person, his or her distinctive clothing and body language, which is sometimes expressed in a graceful and plastic manner, or, on the contrary, in a rough manner. The paintings also clearly convey emotions and inner experiences, encompassing a broad spectrum of feelings. Mone Kiel's characters are happy, willful and playful, but one can also find states of anxiety, melancholy and resignation.

The figures and portraits are cast in oil paint, broad brushstrokes and bold contrasting colours, usually on large format canvases.

The artist currently lives and works actively in the Czech Republic. In 2020 she had a solo exhibition "The Look" in Veleshin, Czech Republic and participated in a group exhibition Kontr-Arguentas III at Meno Park Gallery, Kaunas.
