Artist

Česlovas Grigonis is an artist who paints cities and city dwellers like no one else, perfectly fusing fantasy and reality. Č. Grigonis's cities often merge several different parts of Vilnius Old Town into one square or street, and sometimes it is hard to tell whether it is Vilnius or another European capital. Towers, ship masts, familiar façades drown in a whirlpool of expressive brushstrokes, now emerging, now disappearing. The human figures we recognise are highly stylised, intertwined with decorative patterns and ornaments, and sometimes, on closer inspection, reveal themselves to be extraterrestrial beings. This creates more mystery in the works and leaves more room for interpretation by the audience.

The artist always tries to maintain a warm, cosy and uplifting mood in his work, and his clients are delighted when this mood is transferred to their homes. His highly characteristic and recognisable paintings leave no one indifferent to his work. His work has been purchased by many people not only from Lithuania, but also from all over the world - many from the USA, Germany, Poland, Russia and Australia.
