More about this artwork

The scene depicts a sparse artist's studio painted in muted, pastel colors, focusing on simplicity and functional objects. In the foreground, there’s a tall, open wooden rack filled with empty shelves, suggesting a place for storing art supplies or canvases. Next to the rack stands a wooden easel, absent of any canvas, paired with two thin red ladders leaning against the wall. The overall space appears used but tidy, with a bare floor and plain, light-colored walls, subtly textured. To the right, there is a doorway draped with a white curtain, beyond which a darker, undefined space is visible. An elevated window or opening is seen on the upper section of the wall, contributing to a sense of depth and light in the otherwise understated composition. The atmosphere conjures a quiet moment of pause or anticipation in the artist's creative environment.

Dovilė Bagdonaitė's painting aims to make the objects speak  and tell their story. Although the compositions of the works are minimalist, they tell stories in a very eloquent way. The lighting, the contrast of colours, the softness of the brushstroke and the filling or emptiness of the space speak here. Although each object, and thus each painting, tells its own story, the artist's gaze on them is somewhat nostalgic, shrouded in a haze of memory that dissolves some details, while highlighting others.
