More about this artwork

The painting captures a serene waterscape showcasing a section of the Alster Lake in Hamburg with a modern city skyline in the background. Notably, the scene includes the dark outlines of the recognizable Hamburg TV tower and another prominent skyscraper, painting a stark contrast against the light sky tinged with gentle blues and grays. In the foreground, multiple sailboats with their masts reaching upwards, are docked at a wooden pier, suggesting a quiet end to a day of sailing. The water reflects hints of the sky’s colors, interspersed with ripples, likely from a gentle breeze or passing boats. On the lake, a couple of tiny sailboats glide peacefully, adding a dynamic element to the tranquil scene. Vibrant green foliage subtly frames the waterfront, hinting at lush parks or landscaped areas nearby. The overall mood of the painting is calm and reflective, featuring a blend of nature and urbanity coexisting harmoniously at the day’s end.

Artist

Ukrainian artist currently living and working in Germany.

Sky and water! So blue, so deep, so multifaceted and infinite... A great source of inspiration for an artist who likes to work with classical elements.

Victor's paintings create an impression of spatial depth. He plays with different shades of blue in relation to the sky and the water in different lighting and urban influences.

Large areas of sky and water are contrasted with detailed sails, boats and houses, where the brush almost plays the role of a coloured pencil. Particularly in the boat paintings, the sharp, purposeful contrasts of short strokes and curves reveal the hand of a great painter. The brushstrokes bring out the constant change of light, the shimmering of the air over the water, and powerfully convey the artist's gaze. Not only does the light convey the atmosphere, but the entire surface of the painting seems to glow with the intensity of the colours.

Most of the paintings were painted in Hamburg and reflect real places. Anyone who has ever been there will recognise one place or another.
