More about this artwork

The painting vividly depicts a serene farmstead scene, primarily dominated by natural elements in thick, textured brushstrokes. At a glance, it displays two rustic wooden structures, possibly barns or small cottages, nestled amidst lush greenery. They appear worn, suggesting a story of weather and time, each with dark roofs contrasting slightly against their surroundings.Reflecting in the forefront is a still water body, likely a pond, mirroring flecks of the sky and surrounding flora. The water, painted with strokes of blue, white, and hints of purple, adds a calm sense of depth to the landscape.Above the farmstead, the sky is a blend of gray and white, hinting at an overcast day, perhaps early morning or late afternoon when the light softens. The vegetation is dense and wildly overgrown, painted in various shades of green with touches of yellows, whites, and blues, suggesting flowers or sprouting plants among the green. To the right, there is a suggestion of a tree trunk, its bark rendered in dark strokes, standing as a silent sentinel by the side of the water, adding a touch of robustness to the otherwise soft and tranquil scenery. The overall mood of the painting is peaceful and somewhat isolated, evoking a sense of simplicity and timelessness.

Liudvikas Daugirdas is an artist who is faithful to the traditions established in the works of Lithuanian and world impressionists. The characteristic bold brush stroke and often contrasting colours of his paintings reveal something that is very personal and at the same time universal – emotion and impression. Little attention to details and strong focus on the character and the essence of the painted object excites imagination, provoking to integrate one’s own personal experience into the picture plane.

The artist views nature as the source of beauty. A leaning tree, rustling bush, bubbling forest stream, flat fields and delicate flowers are his artistic inspiration. In his works, the artist sees the world as the integral part of our existence, rather than the replica of the environment or its transformation into artificial beauty in the paintings. The recurring motif of a reflection in water in the paintings is the manifestation of the artist’s individual and unique inner world reflected on the canvas.

Liudvikas Daugirdas lives in Vilnius. He is an architect by profession. At present, works in the field of graphic design.
