More about this artwork

The painting presents a striking visual narrative centered on a pair of yellow hands, rendered with bold, sketch-like lines against a tumultuous background of deep blues and vibrant reds, suggesting turmoil or chaos. These hands interact delicately with a daisy, a traditional symbol of purity and simplicity. One hand holds the flower carefully by the stem, near the bloom, while the other hand seems to be either giving or receiving it. This central interaction is framed by further fragmented hands and fingers that blur into and emerge from the dark, possibly symbolizing various external influences or challenges. The overall composition conveys a sense of struggle and yet, a moment of clarity or realization captured by the connection with the simple flower.

Artist

The artist Mindaugas Pupelis is interesting, promising and undoubtedly relevant. The young artist combines the seemingly incompatible - street art and easel painting. From traditional painting comes oil paint, from street art - contour lines, monochrome spots, spray paint and markers. This combination of techniques on canvas bridges the current issues of contemporary society with an ironic point of view.

The characters on the canvases are colourful and characteristic, and all the details here serve to express different emotions, but the accompanying motif remains the theme of loneliness, isolation, the problem of not being able to understand and not wanting to be understood. The artist's depictions of bar and café-goers and bohemians are, in the artist's own words, immersed in everyday melancholy, and even when they are amongst others, they look inwards.

Pupelis graduated from the Vilnius Academy of Arts with a Bachelor's and Master's degree.
