More about this artwork

The painting presents a vivid and abstract composition, dominated by striking contrasts in color and form. On the left, there is a figure draped in dark tones, predominantly black and deep greens, evoking a sense of heaviness or burden. This figure appears almost spectral, with its form loosely defined, creating an eerie or haunting presence. It holds a spherical object in one hand, connected by a thin, orange line that stretches across to the other side of the canvas. On the right, against a bold yellow background, another figure emerges, rendered in lighter, more skeletal strokes of white and gray. This figure seems to be in a state of strain or tension, as suggested by the dynamic, almost aggressive brushwork. The orange line connects to this figure as well, drawing a visual and perhaps symbolic link between the two entities. The background is a solid, flat blue, providing a stark canvas that amplifies the intensity of the figures and the vibrant yellow. The overall mood is one of conflict and struggle, resonating with the title's suggestion of spiritual enslavement. The use of abstract shapes and the minimal detail allow for multiple interpretations, focusing on the emotional or psychological resonance rather than literal representation.

“There are no people, only ideas” – says A.Bulaka.

Today artist's life circulates between collapsing cantonments of Šiauliai and art-stuffed Paris, but as long as he can hold a brush in his hand, memories of hippie traveling and ideas of free spirit remain.

"When you have the idea of the painting concentrated in your head, the work begins and it bubbles with intensity - this is sensitive process of creation" – says Alvydas.

And it continues for more than twenty-five years - since the first exhibition in Vilnius University of Arts.
