More about this artwork

In the painting, a colossal, surreal whale floats ominously in the sky above a tranquil landscape. The whale, rendered in a pale, soft blue, dominates the scene with its detailed and streamlined body that resembles a dirigible or airship. Its texture smoothly transitions from what might be typical whale skin to a more metallic or ghostly material. The whale’s underbelly gently merges into a long, tubular appendage that stretches downward toward the earth, blurring the lines between organic and mechanical. The landscape below mirrors the soft, muted tones of the sky, marked by gentle hues of blue and grey. A serene body of water reflects both the vast form of the whale and the scattered clouds above, undisturbed by a ripple, casting back a perfect mirror image. Sparse vegetation dots the edges of the water, adding a touch of stark, dark contrast to the otherwise subdued color palette. This setting suggests a boundary where the natural world calmly observes the intrusion of a fantastical element.

Artist

"I'm a graphic designer and illustrator. I use themes of symbolism and surrealism in my work.

Breton put forward the idea that art should be unconscious. In my work, I try to break the boundary between dream and reality, to place visual elements in contrasting contexts, so that the viewer can filter the uncharacteristic image through his or her own worldview and create an interpretation," the artist introduces herself.

The essential element of the artist's work is the unexpected, surprise. Seeing drooping eyes, fish, a skull or another element out of context in a traditional landscape makes the viewer pause, take a second look, and make sure his eyes are not playing tricks. In this way, the viewer is invited to rethink what he sees and to look for parallels between the dissonant objects.
