More about this artwork

In the painting "Angel of Light" by Daina Maslauskaitė (I-AM), a radiant, ethereal figure dominates the composition, its presence almost palpable yet elusive. The use of predominantly white paint in the center creates a striking contrast with the surrounding swirls of muted purples, blues, and earth tones, suggesting a figure of light emerging from a tumultuous background. The texture is thick and heavily applied, giving the impression of wings unfurling dynamically from the figure's core, where a subtle hint of a human-like form can be discerned. The artwork merges abstraction with the contours of a celestial being, capturing an essence of purity, hope, and transcendence. The surrounding darker colors appear to move, as if shifting and reacting to the luminous central figure, enhancing the sense of a divine presence.

Daina Maslauskaitė Light (born in 1979) began her independent creative career two decades ago, later completing her bachelor's and master's studies at the Academy of Fine Arts. In her master's thesis she explored the subjective expression of the artist's total (or holistic) experiences in painting, and in it she formulated and theoretically justified her own conception of her work.

The artist's work is distinguished by the fact that it speaks about the architecture of the inner reality of the human being, where the path to the true self, the dialogue with the world and the inner kung-fu happening in one's soul, are among the most important themes of her work.

The pictorial form is born in the process of self-purification through meditation and other autogenic practices, "building" sensitive, harmonious, sometimes complex relationships with the greater whole - the World, the Universe, the Creator, allowing the inner transformation to take place. In her search for a pictorial form, the artist seeks to feel, see and experience the changes in the outside and in herself as an inseparable unity. Colour and composition emerge intuitively, just as the vision and idea of the painting itself is born out of an intuitive search for the deepest source beneath the visual reality, which often correlates with expressive outbursts of spontaneous impulse.
