D. Rusys is a self-taught painter who has been exhibiting in Klaipėda since 1992, but later settled in Vilnius to study at the Academy of Fine Arts since where in 2013 he defended he got his master's degree in monumental painting, and is currently a resident of the Užupis Art Incubator, a member of the LDS. He has held several solo exhibitions, and is also a frequent participant of group exhibitions and plein-air workshops.
In his work he uses every method of expression known and available to him: pittura metaphisica, intuition, surrealist dreaming, Dadaist irony, assemblage puzzles and anything else that comes to mind. Danielius Rusys painting is filled with the spirit of surreal fairy tales: disproportionate figures, interesting angles, people with the heads of various animals or no facial features at all. The paintings seem to have faded away, with a range of pastel tones, in which brighter lines, circles and ornaments appear.
