More about this artwork

The painting "Childhood Memories" by Raimundas Dzimidavičius captures a whimsical and playful scene filled with elements that evoke the simplicity and innocence of childhood. The artwork features a textured gray background on which the colorful drawings stand out. There is a yellow car at the bottom left, simplistic in its form, and near it is a vibrant tree with a brown trunk and green leaves. Above and to the right, a simple depiction of a house with a big red roof and a sign that says "MY HOME" is connected by a curved yellow path to other elements in the scene.Prominently, there are two child-like figures drawn in a basic stick figure style; the figure on the left appears to have a round head with panels, resembling a helmet, and is dressed in blue, while the figure on the right, with loose black hair, wears a red dress. Both figures are holding hands and have strikingly large, round eyes that gaze forward.Floating above this peaceful scene are surreal elements: a sun with rays, a crescent moon, and a stylized airplane in motion, painted in yellow. The airplane, tilting downward as if in flight, and a star or flower-like figure near the top add a touch of dynamic movement and whimsy. The overall composition is both vivid and imaginative, reminiscent of drawings seen in a child’s sketchbook, filled with bright primary colors and an unbound, carefree energy.

Raimundas Dzimidavičius (1960) is a painter who constantly balances between abstraction and drawing. The spectrum of themes of the prolific author is quite wide, but the most prominent line is the line of searching for the human soul. The artist is interested in the coming and going of man from this world, his transience, the question of the meaning of life. Often, angels, beings from beyond, appear in his works; this world and the beyond are merged into one. The author emphasises man's striving to seek something beyond the everyday and to spread goodness.

R. Dzimidavičius has been studying at the Martinaitis Art School since 1974.

From 1981-1984 he studied applied decorative arts at ZNUI in Moscow.

For 15 years he worked as a painter and sculptor in the art workshop of the Anapa branch of the Russian Art Foundation.

Since 2000 he has been living in Lithuania as a free artist.
