More about this artwork

The painting features a scene with vibrant, almost luminous yellow and orange creatures that resemble cockroaches, set against a background of rich blues and purples. These creatures are scattered across the canvas, appearing on different planes created by sweeping, curvilinear forms that evoke a sense of motion. The background is textured with numerous vertical streaks, suggesting rain or a similar phenomenon that adds a dynamic quality to the image. The contrast of the colorful figures against the cooler tones of the background highlights their forms, making them stand out prominently in the composition.

My name is Verdenė Monika Valkiūnaitė. In 2018 I graduated from Vilnius Academy of Arts with a bachelor's degree in scenography and in 2021 - master's degree. Currently, I am intensively creating (scenographies, drawings, paintings) and participating in exhibitions in Lithuania and abroad.

In painting, I look for a style and expression that reflects my childhood experiences. I play and construct scenography on the planes and I look at the role of a scenographer from other angles, exclusively creating a sensual atmosphere on canvas.

For a long time, I didn’t draw sketches before painting I let everything appear on the canvas naturally, gradually, intuitively.

Multi-layering is important to me in canvases because of the depth and space created by it. Fresh, bright colors, their mutual contrasts and games played in paintings have an equally important role in painting also.

In exhibitions, I usually arrange the works in such a way that there is space to walk around, encounter obstacles or get to know characters you have never seen before, new, unexpected, sometimes cozy environments.

I don't believe in inspiration, I believe in constant work and searching, accumulating experiences, sifting through them, rethinking, reloading, analyzing, which later undergo transformation into works.
