More about this artwork

In the painting, a textured, terracotta-colored landscape dominates the foreground, with gentle shading and highlights suggesting a flowing or draped form, perhaps a hill or fabric. This form contrasts sharply with the stark, deep black background that occupies the upper portion of the canvas. On this dark backdrop, a green smiley face appears, patched into what looks like outer space with white, cross-shaped strips suggesting adhesive tape. The smiley face, positioned asymmetrically towards the top left side, beams innocently and brightly, adding a whimsical or surreal element to the scene. Near the center, amidst the blackness, a mysterious white splash or light burst is visible, providing a dynamic sense of movement or transformation. This burst adds a mysterious or potentially energetic quality to the otherwise serene and more static elements of the composition. The overall effect is one of intriguing contrast—between light and dark, the organic and the emblematic, the grounded and the cosmic—inviting contemplation on possibly hidden depths or messages.

Artist

"I'm a graphic designer and illustrator. I use themes of symbolism and surrealism in my work.

Breton put forward the idea that art should be unconscious. In my work, I try to break the boundary between dream and reality, to place visual elements in contrasting contexts, so that the viewer can filter the uncharacteristic image through his or her own worldview and create an interpretation," the artist introduces herself.

The essential element of the artist's work is the unexpected, surprise. Seeing drooping eyes, fish, a skull or another element out of context in a traditional landscape makes the viewer pause, take a second look, and make sure his eyes are not playing tricks. In this way, the viewer is invited to rethink what he sees and to look for parallels between the dissonant objects.
