More about this artwork

The painting captures a serene fishing village, likely set during a somewhat overcast day, given the soft, diffused light. The scene is dominated by a waterfront lined with quaint, historically styled buildings layered organically upon each other, each uniquely shaped and sized but united by a generally muted color palette of whites and soft earth tones with darker trim. Their roofs, some terracotta and others in slate blues, slope gently, accenting the old-world charm of the architecture. In the foreground, a calm body of water reflects elements of the scene, disturbed gently by a few bobbing boats moored along the quay. A larger fishing boat, painted a deep blue and adorned with bright red buoys, draws the eye as a focal point, suggesting the village’s reliance on sea for livelihood. A few figures can be glimpsed, mere hints of daily life amidst this quiet, timeless setting. Stone steps leading to the upper levels of the village suggest elevation and depth, adding layers to the perspective, while further enriching the narrative of an intimately scaled, closely-knit community.

Artist

Eugis Eidukaitis was born in Russia, Sibir on November, 1965 in a family of Lithuanian
exile. He grew up and spent big part of his life in Moldova, Chisinau. First touch to art started
there in Chisinau art school. Artist ended University and got medicine diplome, but art and
paintings were always a hobby and sometimes source of livelihood.
In 2000 he came back to Lithuania and started to draw and paint even more. Art became
constat thing in life.

His favourite genre is the urban or natural landscape, but he is not tempted to romanticise or embellish them. Nevertheless, one can sense that his view of reality is forgiving and gentle. He looks for a distinctive beauty in each motif, which is revealed through the contrast of light and shadow, the vivid, soft colours.

Paintings and watercolor adorn dozens of private collections.
