More about this artwork

The painting features a stylized figure with an elongated form, presenting a dramatic and almost exaggerated profile view. The character, depicted with an orange-tinted face and reddish hair, wears a distinct dark cap and a matching dark outfit highlighted by subtle outlines suggestive of folds or creases. This person is engaged in an act of holding or possibly waving a white handkerchief, a traditional symbol which could imply a gesture of farewell. The face, marked by minimal features including a stripe over the eyes that possibly suggests a band or blindfold, adds an enigmatic quality to the expression. Behind this figure, a vibrant green background serves to isolate and spotlight the subject, enhancing the emotional resonance of the scene. The artist employs a blend of realism and abstraction to evoke a poignant sentiment rooted in the gesture of goodbye.

Rolana Čečkauskaitė says that when she paints, it is like she is making a movie - she invents characters, their adventures, actions and conversations, and the axis of these " movies " has been the relationship between a man and a woman, between a couple, for many years. The theme is topical and inexhaustible.

In fact, Rolana's works are like film stills - her characters are so expressive, characterful and vivid, and it seems that you can already tell a lot about them just by looking at them. Mostly they are captured in everyday moments, enjoying small joys, which, as the author herself says, is what life is made of. On the other hand, the artist loves to surprise, so when we wait for a new shipment of paintings, we always wonder what her characters will do this time. Will they be flying in the sky? Will they dance and play? Will they ride horses? It may sound a bit sweet, but here Rolana Čečkauskaitė's art is always saved by a healthy dose of irony and laughter.

R. Čečkauskaitė's paintings are always recognisable from the combination of whirlwind colours, patterns and stylised figures, which create a very stylish, aesthetic image. Her paintings are never cluttered: there are usually one or two figures, few details, but the ones that do exist are always meaningful. What we like most about Rolana's paintings is that the stylised characters are often universal, we can recognise ourselves in them, and that they always convey a good emotion - she believes that a painting that hangs in the house should brighten the mood, make us happy.

Rolana Čečkauskaitė is widely known not only as a painter, but also as a ceramist. Born in Šiauliai, she studied at the M. K. Čiurlionis Art School and graduated from the Vilnius Academy of Arts. A member of the Artists' Union, the artist has held over 65 solo exhibitions and more than 200 group exhibitions in Lithuania and abroad.

The artist has been awarded a Letter of Gratitude by the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Lithuania, and has been granted the status of Artist by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Lithuania.
