More about this artwork

A colorful set of abstract elements dominate the canvas, featuring a central, complex form that resembles a Siamese fighting fish (Betta), painted in deep blue with striking, flowing fins highlighted with white lines, transitioning into tones of coral and pale pink. This vibrant aquatic figure contrasts vividly against a light background, speckled with variously sized and colored circles—yellows, reds, blues, and softer pastel tones that give the impression of bubbles or distant celestial bodies. Scattered throughout are smaller, seemingly playful splashes and dots of color, enhancing the dynamic, fluid atmosphere of the piece.

Rebecca Đuran-Šilėnas (b. 1991), who introduces herself as Bekki, is an artist from Croatia. In her paintings, she reveals the artist's approach to the deconstructed space in which she plays the role of conductor. It is a collection of beauty, impulse, modern aesthetics and a celebration of colour.

Rebecca combines colour spots with graphic and linear elements, plays with spot sizes and contrasts, but always maintains a sense of space, a balance of freedom and control, and the composition always remains dynamic. Although she uses acrylic paints, she tries to achieve a sense of watercolour lightness, translucency and spills.

Her paintings reflect a sense of control, movement and freedom, leaving space for the viewer. The titles of the paintings are like an additional part of the work, but it does not explain or reveal everything to the viewer, it is just another hint. It is important for the artist to leave the viewer free to interpret and thus give her work a second life.

Rebecca completed her MA studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rijeka, Croatia and the Vilnius Academy of Fine Arts. She has participated in group exhibitions in Croatia and abroad. Since 2017 she lives in Vilnius.
