More about this artwork

In the painting, "A Wish To Control" by Alma Karalevičienė, the canvas reveals an abstract landscape crafted through a chaotic yet balanced arrangement of colors and shapes. Dominated by earthy tones like browns and muted grays, juxtaposed with vibrant streaks of blues, whites, and reds, the artwork conveys a vivid sense of dynamic intensity. Dark shadowy patches, perhaps representing clouds of uncertainty, float across the top. The central part is enlivened by strokes and splotches, conveying movement and texture, perhaps suggestive of a bustling urban environment.Vertical drippings and uneven horizontal bands contribute to an urban mosaic, reminiscent of rain in a colorful cityscape. Two figures on the left side seem to stand and watch or perhaps converse, small and ghost-like, etched in white against the muddled background. They offer a human element amidst the abstraction, hinting at narrative or emotional undercurrents within the chaos. Red and blue forms and lines add structural snippets, perhaps symbolic windows, doors, or pathways. This painting is an intriguing exploration of control amidst chaos, the desire for order in a seemingly disordered world. The use of broad, sweeping motions and textural diversity layers meaning and aesthetic appeal, inviting viewers to dive into its complexity.

"I was born in 1975. I have a degree in costume design, and have had several painting teachers. For a couple of years I have been painting intensively, continuously. My works are in acrylic. I have many favourite themes that fascinate me: the water element, the grace of ballerinas, the affection of pets, etc. I also paint abstract paintings. My paintings are regularly exhibited in joint exhibitions in Lithuania."

The artist herself says that freedom and spontaneity are very important to her, hence her expressive touch and her strong tendency towards abstraction. Often, however, this expression is somewhat reigned in by the drawing, or just a tiny hint of it, which is enough to turn the abstraction into a frenzied reflection of reality.

The artist boldly experiments with textures, washes and patterns, and always tries to counterbalance bright colours with a sense of lightness, so that her work always looks modern and fits perfectly in contemporary interiors.
