"I am a designer and illustrator, but from my first experiments with paint, I realised that painting was the best form of self-expression. My work can be inspired by instant emotions, current events, cities, architecture, my own dreams. My work balances between abstraction, deformed silhouettes and hidden signs."
Julia's paintings are characterised by an expressive manner and contrasting colours. Naturally, this combination is always eye-catching. She combines colour spots and spontaneous brushstrokes with illustrative, linear drawing. Perhaps the most interesting in Julia's repertoire are deformed human silhouettes. Notice how the deformation of the bodies draws our gaze to one or the other part of the body, exaggerating one and bringing it to the foreground, leaving the other in the background. It is an original idea of the artist to depict them as if they were X-rayed. It is a reminder that our bodies are material and temporary, and that the most important things are still invisible.
