Rolandas Butkevičius, a Lithuanian artist, was born in 1964 in Vilnius to a family of actors. Although his upbringing immersed him in the arts, he chose to become a painter on his own initiative, teaching himself the craft.

From an early age, Rolandas delighted in painting and, at just eight years old, he held his first solo exhibition at the theatre where his mother worked. He often points out that his art is difficult to classify, as it does not follow any particular movement or style.
