About the author
Giedra Purlytė dedicates herself to the aesthetics and emotional evocativeness found in painting. Her oeuvre is marked by investigations into color, light, and a sense of harmonious unity that emerges on the canvas. Frequently inspired by the natural world, she seeks intuitive interpretations and gentle enigmas that encourage quiet contemplation. Instead of pursuing shock value, Purlytė aims to establish an atmosphere steeped in silence and self-reflection, employing color as a potent means of conveying emotional reality.
Originally from Kaunas, Giedra Purlytė began her formal art studies at the Antanas Martinaitis Art School in her native city. These foundational years played an essential part in developing both her artistic sensibility and her technical proficiency. The creative milieu of Kaunas had a significant influence on how she came to view and approach art.
Between 1985 and 1989, Purlytė pursued further education at the Stepo Žuko Technical School of Fine Arts—currently J. Vienožinskis Art College—where she specialized in textiles. From 1990 to 1996, she attended the Kaunas Academy of Fine Arts, where she advanced her understanding and experimented with new forms of expression in the visual arts.
Giedra Purlytė has participated in exhibitions and international painting plein airs since 1994. Over the years, she has held more than 30 solo exhibitions and taken part in numerous group showcases. Her artwork has been presented in countries including Japan, Russia, Australia, the USA, Belgium, Switzerland, and Lithuania, and it resides in private collections within Lithuania and internationally. A member of the Union of Lithuanian Artists since 2012, she continues to be an active presence in the art world.
