About the author
Indrė Siaurusevičiūtė is an artist whose work is intimately tied to her origins in Suvalkija, a region whose unique landscapes shape her creative perspective. The vast horizons, wide plains, gentle meadows, and farmland are more than sources of tranquility and strength for Indrė; they are central motifs in her paintings’ visual language. Her bond with this land forms the cornerstone of her artistic expression.
While studying at the Vilnius Academy of Fine Arts, Indrė fostered a deep appreciation for abstract art. She found herself drawn to the abstract movement, which opened up limitless opportunities and fresh ways to perceive form and significance. Her fascination with abstraction has remained at the heart of her work, serving as a sky without boundaries, rich with endless depths and layers to investigate.
Her artistic process blends the elements of landscape and abstraction, resulting in works where the enigma of nature merges with her own inner life. Through this integration, her pieces frequently present unforeseen details—sometimes revealing faint outlines of figures, forms, or animals. This seamless fusion underscores her skill in portraying the complexity and diversity of the natural environment through a distinctly personal, interpretive approach.
Layers play a vital role in Indrė’s painting technique. She equates the buildup of paint to the accumulation of human experiences, where each new color or brushstroke both hides and exposes what lies beneath. Just as people gather memories and transform over time, moving away from innocence and simplicity, her canvases shift and gain dimension—transitioning from an untouched white foundation to something imbued with history, depth, and emotional weight.
