More about this artwork

In this expressive painting titled "Peacocks" by Jolanta Vitkutė, two peacocks are depicted amidst a tranquil, natural setting. The foremost peacock is vibrant, with a rich display of colorful tail feathers bearing the iconic 'eyes' that shimmer in hues of blue, green, and gold, suggesting the flamboyance often associated with these majestic birds. This peacock stands proudly, its head turned slightly towards its tail, showing off its spectacular plumage. Its deep blue and green neck gleams under what seems to be soft, ambient light, enhancing the bird's regal posture. The second peacock, juxtaposed with the first, exhibits a more subdued color palette, primarily in shades of gray and white, indicating it might be a female. This peacock is positioned behind the first, with its body oriented towards the viewer, creating a sense of depth and interaction between the two birds. The background is a muted mix of earthy greens, browns, and grays, possibly depicting a wooded area with diffused lighting that suggests either dawn or dusk. A tree branch extends across the upper middle part of the canvas, draped with leaves in various shades of brown and green, adding to the painting’s rich tapestry of textures and colors. The overall ambiance is serene, with a hint of the mystical, possibly reflecting the exotic and often symbolic nature of peacocks in art.

Artist

"I graduated with a Bachelor's degree in fresco mosaics and am currently studying for a Master's degree. I worked for two years in mural restoration. I am looking for mysticism in my life, so my paintings have a mood close to magical realism. For me, painting is wordless thinking, so I put together fragments of thoughts intuitively, obeying my inner desires, so that they can later come together to form a visual whole," says the artist.

Jolanta's works have a mysterious, sometimes even slightly eerie mood. She likes to depict old shamans, cemeteries, old parks, decaying evidence of human activity, suggesting that we are far from being the masters of this world. Her work is about revealing that there is something more than what we see, that the elements of nature are beyond our control and unknown to us.
