More about this artwork

In the painting, a broad and layered landscape stretches under a heavy sky. The scene is divided roughly into three horizontal bands. The uppermost band, which occupies the majority of the canvas, features a dark, stormy sky in deep greens and blacks, which at places looks almost velvety. This broody expanse is serrated at its lower edge, adding a torn, rough texture to the whole.Beneath this lies a narrower strip that appears to be a distant landscape; a lighter, perhaps misty streak of white that gives a soft contrast to the looming darkness above. This band suggests a far-off shoreline or horizon line separating sky from land. The lowest band, the foreground, presents a sandy or earthen terrain, painted in shades of pale yellow and soft brow. Sparse, delicate patches of white and beige suggest a rough, textured surface, possibly sand or dry earth, illuminated by a diffuse, hidden light source. The entire composition evokes a mood of contemplation and an almost surreal connection between the earthly and the celestial, tying into the painting's title, "Between Heaven and Earth." The contrast and tension between the dark, oppressive sky and the lighter earthy tones create a profound visual meditation on space, silence, and perhaps isolation.

Artist

Artist's creative path continues for thirty years now. During this period his creativity has passed many stages. Gradually, slightly changing, it matured, discovered a distinctive style that separates the author from the other artists. But it always remained balancing between realistic and abstract art.

Painting for Ramūnas is like music, when a brush in his hands turns into a musical instrument, creating melodious music on the canvas, while using color instead of notes. During the painting process he enjoys compositions of lines and spots, looking for synthesis of light, space, sense. He reflects light by color language. Experimental and energetic touches breathe life into paintings, they radiate inner light, searches, dynamics.

Paintings are characterized by the multi-planarity of the image. Vibrant color spots do not  please the viewer, on the contrary - they open up a way for distinctive works’ perception. While painting, Ramūnas does not lie to himself, he conveys impressions of the moment and what he feels, he matures it and radiates through his own emotional color prism.

In the paintings there are plenty of objects of various meanings, which transform, distort reality while giving it originality and otherness. The meaning of the painting itself lies in the compositions of lines and spots, and in the organic forms. There is a given possibility for others and for the artist himself to discover meanings of painted objects, to read encoded concepts and ideas once again.

The artist's painting is expressive. Through a wide range of color experiences, subtle lived states, feelings, inner harmony, and sometimes unexpected emotional outbursts are revealed. Open color and expressive lines help to reveal the main emotional accent, making them not boring.
