More about this artwork

In the painting "Roadside Tree" by Liudvikas Daugirdas, a lush tree stands prominently, dominating the scene. The tree is filled with a vibrant mix of greens, marked by dabs of crimson and deep blue, suggesting the freshness of leaves perhaps interspersed with fruits or flowers. It stands against a soothing sky, brushed lightly with blues and hints of gray, reminiscent of a clear day. The tree's hefty trunk, a solid brown, anchors it firmly in the soil, surrounded by lush foliage and undergrowth that appear in a lively play of light and shadow.A winding path, rendered in shades of blue and white, curves around the base of the tree, suggesting a peaceful rural setting. The path is dappled with sunlight, reflected in the irregular patches of yellow and light green, indicating the play of light through the leaves. The edges of the path are bordered by hints of bright color, possibly flowers or small shrubs, adding to the idyllic, natural feel of the painting. In the distance, beyond the tree, the landscape fades into a blur of green and hints of structures that might suggest distant houses or farms, barely discernible, adding depth and a sense of mystery to the scene. The overall effect is vibrant and dynamic, the thick, textured application of paint creating a sense of movement and life, as if a gentle breeze might be rustling through the leaves at any moment.

Liudvikas Daugirdas is an artist who is faithful to the traditions established in the works of Lithuanian and world impressionists. The characteristic bold brush stroke and often contrasting colours of his paintings reveal something that is very personal and at the same time universal – emotion and impression. Little attention to details and strong focus on the character and the essence of the painted object excites imagination, provoking to integrate one’s own personal experience into the picture plane.

The artist views nature as the source of beauty. A leaning tree, rustling bush, bubbling forest stream, flat fields and delicate flowers are his artistic inspiration. In his works, the artist sees the world as the integral part of our existence, rather than the replica of the environment or its transformation into artificial beauty in the paintings. The recurring motif of a reflection in water in the paintings is the manifestation of the artist’s individual and unique inner world reflected on the canvas.

Liudvikas Daugirdas lives in Vilnius. He is an architect by profession. At present, works in the field of graphic design.
