More about this artwork

In the vibrant painting, an elaborate cluster of a cacti's green pads dominate the scene. The pads are thick and textured, carrying a robust and almost rubbery appearance, rendered in varying shades from deep emerald greens to lighter, cooler greys. Sprouting from these luscious pads are bulbous, yellow-toned fruits, scattered unevenly across the plant. Their surface is bumpy and mottled, showing signs of ripeness. Fine white thorns stretch subtly across the skin of the cactus pads, catching the light and adding a further dimension of realism to the plant’s rugged exterior. The luxurious spread of the cactus fills the entirety of the canvas, its flesh painted with rich, swirling brush strokes that convey both weight and depth, emphasizing the plant's dense and resilient nature.

Artist

Paulius likes picture things pure and clear, without a shadow of doubt, without stereotypes, out of the trivial round. He leaves us alone with them, eye to eye. Maybe some of us will see only cabbages or balks but if we will take a second look we will start to wonder what happened to the cabbage later? What's his story? Where did it come from? Was it chosen by chance or specifically? What's beneath the brush strokes?

In Paulius' paintings the objects stand naked in front of us making us to give a thought about the essence of life.
