More about this artwork

In the painting, a large bull stands prominently, its body partly cloaked in elaborate patterning suggestive of a saddle or blanket. The creature's posture is dynamic, with one front leg raised as if in mid-motion, evoking a sense of action. On the back of the bull, a figure — presumably a woman based on the long, flowing hair and delicate features — is seated. The woman’s posture is relaxed, with one hand resting behind her on the bull's back, suggesting a calm mastery or an alliance rather than fear. The bull's head is turned slightly, as if looking forward or acknowledging the viewer's presence. The setting appears vaguely aquatic, with wave-like patterns and fish motifs at the base, hinting at a mythical or symbolic river or sea journey. The overall style is sketch-like, with expressive, fluid lines contributing to the movement and mythological ambiance of the scene.

Eugenijus Lugovojus, a Lithuanian artist born in Jonava in 1969, began his formal art education at the Kaunas St. Žukas Applied Arts Technical School, where he gained a fundamental grasp of various artistic techniques. In 1989, he continued his studies at the Vilnius Art Academy, choosing to specialize in graphics. Lugovojus completed his studies at the Academy in 1995, which marked the beginning of his career as a professional artist.

Since 1994, Lugovojus has participated actively in art exhibitions, providing him the opportunity to present his developing artistic style to a wide range of viewers. He has arranged solo exhibitions in several cities, including Kėdainiai, Jonava, and Kaunas. His art has also been exhibited internationally, including at venues in Linz, Austria, and St. Petersburg, Russia. Private collectors in Lithuania, the USA, and Australia have acquired his works for their collections.

Throughout his career, Lugovojus strives to create a meaningful bond with his audience. He explores issues of society and individuality from a variety of perspectives, including historical, contemporary, philosophical, theological, and mythological viewpoints. Rather than taking an expressionist or primitive route, he approaches questions about life and time with calmness and careful consideration.

Lugovojus has chosen to focus primarily on graphic art, particularly emphasizing etching and dry needle techniques. He is recognized for his skillful integration of black-and-white contrasts, merging them into a cohesive visual texture. This unique style reinforces his artistic vision, prompting viewers to reflect thoughtfully on the profound messages found within his pieces.
