"K. Česonytė’s paintings are variations on Expressionist painting: characterized by a trembling touch, energetic brushstrokes, and expressive paint textures with which she often seems to 'sculpt' figures, objects, and landscape elements. In terms of genre, the scope of her work is quite traditional. Landscapes predominate, though the artist has also painted a series of still lifes, numerous urban scenes, and the occasional stylized portrait. Yet, other aspects of K. Česonytė’s painting align her less with classical modernist art and more with the imagery of the contemporary, media-saturated world. 'My tools are the computer and virtual space,' she says. The visual imagery in her paintings derives not from reality itself, but from a virtual—or secondary—reality. For this creative artist, however, that serves merely as a springboard or a starting signal that liberates both imagination and hand. In her work, this secondary reality—or a chance motif—and the artist’s imagination most often intertwine inseparably. Images suggested by modern media are transformed into authentic visions, deeply and sensitively experienced by the painter herself."

About this artwork+

In Kristina Česonytė's painting "Three-Headed Not a Dragon," a unique figure stands out. The body is human-like, but the heads are not. There are three faces, each distinct. They have different expressions and styles. The limbs are stretched and flow into the frame. Colors are soft with earthy tones and outlines are bold and clear. The style is abstract. Česonytė combines simplicity with complexity. The painting invites viewers to think and feel. It's imaginative and engaging, leaving much to interpret.
