More about this artwork

The painting depicts a lush bouquet of flowers in varying shades of pink and purple, interspersed with hints of white and soft greens. The flowers, full and voluminous, are arranged in a transparent glass vase that sits on a lightly-draped white cloth. Light casts gently across the vase and flowers, creating subtle reflections and adding depth to the arrangement. On the cloth and the area surrounding the vase, a few petals are scattered, suggesting the delicate nature of the blooms. The background is softly blurred, featuring neutral tones that enhance the vibrant colors of the flowers. The brushwork is textured and expressive, conveying a sense of freshness and natural beauty.

Nomeda Balasevičiūtė was born in Kaunas, Lithuania, and has remained there throughout her life. Her love for the arts blossomed during her childhood, as she attended a local music school before enrolling at the M. Martinaitis Art School. Early on, Nomeda aspired to illustrate children's books, a dream she would ultimately achieve.

Nomeda graduated from the Vilnius Academy of Arts (formerly the State Art Institute of Lithuania) in 1988. Soon after, she started her career as an illustrator for "Genys" magazine and the children's newspaper "Tukas." Motivated by the wish to connect with young readers, she created a newspaper for her daughter Jūratė and her friends, calling it "Pepė." This initiative grew into a magazine and paved the way for the publication of Nomeda's own children's books, many of which she both wrote and illustrated.

Nomeda Balasevičiūtė teached design at Kaunas College, an institution that offers higher education in areas such as technology, social sciences, biomedicine, humanities, and the arts. Through her instruction, she contributes to the cultivation of a new generation of creative talent in Lithuania.

Nomeda is presently devoted to oil painting, where the hallmarks of her illustration background are frequently evident in her work. Alongside her painting, she delves into other creative pursuits, including sculpture, transforming recyclable materials through inventive “constructive conversations” to produce singular pieces of art.
