More about this artwork

The painting showcases an underwater vista, layered with textured shades of blue, green, and hints of gold. It depicts an ethereal, aquatic dreamscape where abstract formations resembling rock and coral formations blend into a watery background. Wispy strokes suggest delicate torrents or water streaks, adding to the feeling of being submerged. Several fish, variegated in colors of teal, pink, and coral orange, float serenely throughout the space, providing lively contrast to the tranquil, muted background. The bottom of the composition opens into a lighter, possibly sandy area that contributes to the depth, giving a sense of peaceful vastness at the sea's bed. The overall effect is both dreamlike and peaceful, inviting the viewer to explore the mystical depths of the ocean.

Kornelija Stoškutė is an artist whose creative path started at the Panevėžys School of Art. Building on this early experience, she later attended the Vilnius Academy of Arts, earning her bachelor's degree in interior design. After graduation, she returned to her hometown, where she began to shape her artistic vision through work with both canvas and ceramics.

Kornelija's art is a fusion of her interests in architecture, travel, and nature. Her persistent search for new expressive forms imparts vibrancy and contrast to her creations. At times, her works adopt an almost surreal aspect, offering insight into her distinctive viewpoint. She often likens these subtle qualities to the way people interpret commercial signage in old towns—where some may see disarray, others discern a special charm.

Her painting method is defined by emotional depth, a sense of freedom, spontaneity, and improvisation. Each new canvas represents an engaging process to her, and she welcomes the unpredictability that comes with the outcome. This focus on process allows her to bring vitality and discovery into every work she produces.

When painting urban landscapes, especially old townscapes, Kornelija applies loose, spontaneous brushstrokes and uses a limited palette to strongly evoke atmosphere. She deliberately avoids excessive detail, favoring a more expressive style. Should her images edge toward realism, she intentionally introduces modern elements, disrupting the clarity to retain a fresh and distinctive quality in her art.
