More about this artwork

In the painting, two fish are depicted in an ethereal, almost dream-like state against a vibrant, turquoise background. One fish, larger and more prominent, takes up the majority of the canvas, rendered with a nuanced palette of blues and grays accented with touches of peach along its body. Its eye is detailed and expressive, conveying a sense of wonder or curiosity. The second fish, much smaller, appears in the foreground, less detailed but mirroring the larger one in form and colors. Both fish are oriented towards a slim, delicate lupin flower that bridges between them, adding a splash of natural green and soft pink to the composition. Their mouths appear close to the flower, suggesting a gentle interaction with the lupin, perhaps to symbolize taste or scent. The overall effect is both tranquil and intriguing, inviting the viewer to ponder the relationship between the natural elements depicted.

Twenty-five years ago, artist Aurelija Filipauskytė embarked on her creative path with a debut solo exhibition. Since then, she has steadily refined her artistry and established a notable presence in Lithuania’s art scene. From the outset, Filipauskytė has displayed a commitment to her work, consistently bringing both innovation and dedication to her artistic endeavors.

Over the course of her career, Aurelija Filipauskytė has presented 31 solo exhibitions and taken part in more than 30 group exhibitions in cities throughout Lithuania. This impressive exhibition history underscores both her active participation in the art world and her determination to present her evolving artistic vision to a broad audience.

While initially gaining acclaim for her portraits, Filipauskytė eventually turned her attention to illustration. Her illustrative pieces, once seen chiefly on postcards and in children’s books, began to expand into larger formats. These works are now represented in public venues, gallery spaces, and private collections. As an accomplished artist, Filipauskytė remains committed to genuine self-expression while maintaining an ongoing dialogue with her viewers. Her careful observation of people and situations continues to shape the narrative element of her art.

In recent years, Filipauskytė’s canvases have drawn audiences into surreal, dreamlike worlds, where she merges aspects of botany, animals, and humanity into imaginative forms.
