More about this artwork

In the painting titled "Composition" by Fausta Kybartienė, there is an abstract depiction centered on an arrangement of jagged yet flowing forms that resemble rocks or geological fragments placed together to form a vague, figurative shape. These forms sit against a vivid, red backdrop, possibly a drapery, which highlights their neutral tones ranging from white and grey to deep brown. The textures and layers within the elements suggest depth and complexity, with certain areas reflecting light more sharply, contributing to a sense of dimensionality. There is a certain emotional charge elicited by the contrast between the stark, impassive forms and the rich, enveloping warmth of the red fabric. The painting explores the interaction of color and form dynamically, drawing the viewer’s eye across smooth curves and sharp edges alike.

Artist

Fausta Kybartienė is an artist whose love for painting and drawing began in her childhood, though it took many years before she devoted herself to it entirely. The demands of everyday life—education, raising a family, work, and managing a household—always came first, pushing her artistic aspirations deep into her subconscious for a considerable time. Even during the years she did not paint, her connection to art remained strong, nurtured by the creative atmosphere in her home.

During her upbringing, Fausta was surrounded by women who were professional folk artists, who constantly integrated beautiful crafts—such as weaving, knitting, and sewing—into their daily lives. She became intimately familiar with these traditional handicrafts, spending her early childhood among spools of yarn, detailed patterns, looms, colourful dyes, and vivid hues. The artistic environment within her home wove creativity into her everyday existence and laid the foundation for her future as a painter.

It was only recently that Fausta began her path as a painter, approaching it with both caution and determination. Wanting to strengthen her skills and avoid starting completely anew, she enrolled at the Kaunas A. Martinitis Art School, where she studied for four years. The guidance and collaboration with prominent Lithuanian artists affirmed her painting abilities and filled her with genuine happiness and satisfaction. Painting, she realized, was far more than a passing interest; it turned into a profound source of joy in her life.

After completing her studies at the art school, Fausta continues to advance her artistic abilities and immerse herself more deeply in painting by continuing her education at the Vilnius Academy of Arts Faculty (VDA KF). Taking part in plein-air exhibitions, she creates works that depict her surroundings and the things that bring her joy. She is especially drawn to painting outdoors in nature, where she discovers inspiration in harmonious yet surprising blends of natural colours.
