More about this artwork

The painting shows a vibrant and abstract depiction of a plant emerging from a layered, colorful pot. The plant itself, represented in textured strokes of white, grey, and hints of brown, resembles tall, elongated feathers or leaves that burst upwards. The pot has a dynamic, almost fluid quality with swirls of blue, green, orange, and patches of other colors, appearing both solid and dripping over a stark black background that frames the base. The overall style mixes a rough, textural feel with a dynamic interplay of color and form.

Artist

Redas Lučiūnas, born in 1968 in Šalčininkai, Lithuania, is an artist whose early years were spent in Anykščiai before relocating to Vilnius in 1979. He remains in Vilnius today, living and working there. In 1989, he completed his studies at the Telšiai Applied Arts Technical School, specializing in Artistic Stone. This background became the cornerstone of his subsequent work involving both stone and design.

Design and stone are central elements in Lučiūnas’ creative work, and he occasionally crafts sculptures from stone. Nevertheless, painting has always been his true passion—a discipline he has pursued since his youth. He primarily works with oil paints, a medium that offers both intensity and subtlety, as well as a rich avenue for self-expression. Embracing openness in his artistic process, Lučiūnas is unafraid to experiment with different techniques, allowing his emotions to shape his creations.

His paintings are characterized by considerable variety; deliberately, he does not confine himself to any fixed style or single mode of expression. As a result, his oeuvre encompasses a wide range of themes, moods, perspectives, and sentiments. On occasion, dreams themselves shape both the mood and the style of his work, adding distinctive atmospheres and layers of emotion.

In both sculpture and painting, Redas Lučiūnas articulates a unique artistic perspective rooted in personal experience and a willingness to explore creativity without bounds. His persistent experimentation, coupled with a strong commitment to his art, produces works that encompass diverse emotional tones and invite viewers to discover their own interpretations and emotional responses.
