More about this artwork

The painting captures a lush cluster of peonies in full bloom amidst a tangle of green foliage. The artist uses expressive, thick brush strokes, instilling a sense of movement and raw energy within the scene. White peonies with hints of pink at their heart dominate the composition, their petals depicted in a flurry of white and pale pink strokes that merge seamlessly with the vibrant greens and dark earthy tones of the background. The leaves, painted with varying shades of green, provide a stark contrast, cradling the delicate flowers. The textural depth of the painting, combined with a naturalistic color palette, evokes the wild, unrestrained beauty of a garden in bloom. Visible brush strokes in the painting add a tactile quality, inviting the viewer to almost feel the breeze through the leaves and the softness of the peony petals.

Kristina Darulienė was born in 1977 in Šiauliai, Lithuania. Today, she lives in a small village in Bartkuski, located in the heart of Lithuania. The natural surroundings deeply shape both her daily life and creative work.

Her most prolific artistic period comes in spring and summer, when nature is at its peak. For Kristina, nature reveals itself vividly to all her senses—the energy, movement, and vitality all become palpable. Rather than seeking inspiration in dramatic vistas, she is drawn to the close-up world beneath her feet: whispering grasses, wild herbs, and the subtle relationships of color and form in ordinary landscapes.

When autumn and winter arrive, her artistic direction changes. She begins to observe and portray withered flowers, bare branches, and fallen leaves, pursuing the fleeting qualities of change and themes like restraint, dormancy, and longing. Her work in this period reflects on the melancholic beauty found in nature’s pause and transformation.

Her artistic language is defined by recurring images of herbs, blossoms, trees, and fruits, deliberately avoiding sweeping views or home settings. Kristina is especially interested in the recurring patterns and dynamic energies of nature, often keeping her artworks unfinished or sketchy to maintain their spontaneous, vibrant feel. She aims to convey the sensation of immersion among natural objects, placing a higher value on authenticity than on precise representation.
